1999-2000 Division 33 Lt. Governor Ray Hacker News:

Division 33 is in second place within the Cal-Nev-Ha District. Division 33 has donated $119,225.22 to help over 2.4 million children fight IDD worldwide. In Cal-Nev-Ha District, the Div. 33 clubs are ranked: Kern - 4th; Westchester - 10th; Tehachapi - 20th and Shafter - 34th.

DIVISION 33 TABLET OF HONOR AWARDS

As of April 2000, 153 Tablet of Honor Awards had been presented in the Cal-Nev-Ha District. Of which, six TOH's were in Div. 33: 1. Late Gov. Glenn Stockbridge (Bakersfield), 2. PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern), 3. PLG Ben Grundy (Shafter), 4. PDLG Phil Niederauer (Westchester), 5. PP Steve Corbin (Westchester) and 6. PLG Sherlo Shively (Westchester). As of July 2000, five more TOH's have been added: 7. Pres. Bob Doozan (Bakersfield)& 8. Amy Ainsworth (Bakersfield) (Left), 9. Pres. Designate Tammy Lodermeier (South Bakersfield) (Middle), 10. Marvin Kirschenmann (Shafter) & 11. PP Ryan Hiebert (Shafter). (Right)

UNICEF RECEPTION AT MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION

Because PSDLG John Stephenson has given more than $5,000 to IDD, the United States Fund for UNICEF honored him with a plaque that was inscribed "with sincere gratitude on behalf of many children whose lives have been saved and improved through your generous contribution". In addition, John and Tammy Lodermeier (South Bakersfield President-designate) had their pictures taken with former ABC-TV 20/20 star Hugh Downs. (Far Right)

DIV. 33 NEW IDD PROGRAM

At the April 13th DCM, Div. IDD Chair PDLG Lynn Buttcane (Tehachapi) announced a new IDD program for Div. 33. When Div. 33 clubs raise $15,000 for IDD after March 31, 2000, Lt. Gov. Ray Hacker, Div. IDD Chair Lynn Buttcane and PSDLG John Stephenson will cut off their locks for IDD. As of 9/30/00, Div. 33 clubs raised $17,530.54 (116.8%) of their goal. (See Far Far Right)

KERN KIWANIAN PURCHASED FIFTH HIXSON

PSDLG John Stephenson purchased Hixson #7741 June 1997 in honor of his Mother, two Aunts and Uncle who had goiter in South Texas. John purchased his second Hixson #16681 August 1999 in the memory of Kern Kiwanian Randy Stephenson (middle son died on 7/16/98). He purchased his third Hixson #18428 November 1999 in memory of Shirley Stephenson (wife died on 10/29/94). In March 2000, John purchased his fourth and fifth Hixsons to honor his two living sons John Stephenson Jr. #19711 and William (Bill) Stephenson #19712. The Stephenson's have helped 100,000 kids not have IDD.

KIF AWARDS KERN CLUB THE SECOND HONORS CLUB BANNER

On April 3, 2000, Robert "Bob" McCurley Jr. wrote PSDLG John Stephenson, IDD Chair, the Kern Club joins a very special group of Kiwanis Clubs that have excelled in supporting the Tablet of Honor and George F. Hixson Fellowship programs. Kern Club has one TOH and twenty GFHFs. Westchester Club received the first Div. 33 Honor Club Banner last year.

FIVE DKA'S IN DIV. 33

PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) recorded the first DKA in Div. 33 after San Jose MYCN. Shafter President Robert McDaniel was second after Riverside MYCS. In addition, three more DKA's were awarded at the April 13th DCM: Taft - Pres. Penny Artz & PP Dr. Kathy Orrin, and Rosedale - Lt. Gov. Ray Hacker.

CAL-NEV-HA DISTRICT GOVERNOR OFFICIAL VISIT TO DIV. 33

On February 27, 2000, Lt. Gov. Ray Hacker welcomed District Governor Terri Neumann to Division 33 at Sheraton Four Points Hotel with 128 in attendance. Rosedale President Mike Taylor introduced the Master of Ceremonies LGE Phil Field. The KIF Tablet of Honor was presented PLG & Westchester President Sherlo Shively. The KIF George F. Hixson Award was presented to HM Leah Field (Kern) and Pat Buttcane (Tehachapi). The CNHF Dunlap was presented to Westchester IPP Steve Corbin along with a Diamond level Hixson. Foundation Ambassador Sherlo Shively announced the 1999-2000 Distinguished Service Awards: (Front Row) Karen Sturgeon (South), Nancy Kerns (Southwest), Pat Rodgers (Bakersfield) & Eleanor Davis (Golden K); (Back Row) Paul Freed (East), Kelly Tomlinson (Oildale), Jona Feil (Rosedale), Gov. Terri Neumann, Bruce Strickler (Westchester) & Bill LaMonte (Tehachapi). DSA's not pictured are: Lynn Hathaway (Kern), Debra McManus (Shafter) & Bill Black (Taft). The first Distinguished Kiwanian Award was presented to Shafter Pres. Robert McDaniel. In the IDD Drawing conducted by PSDLG Lynn Buttcane (Tehachapi), the Hixson winner was Ila Shively. PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) conducted the IDD Challenge, and the two new Hixsons are: Oildale Pres. Jack Roth & Westchester member Ed Kreiser.

DIVISION 33 MAKES 100% FOR 13 YEARS

Lt. Governor Ray is happy to report that our division again leads the District, and is the first division to have all clubs contribute to our District and International Foundations annual fund drives. This makes 13 consecutive years that all our clubs have donated. No division in this District is close to our record. Congratulations and thank you to all clubs. Plus, a big thank you to PDLG Phil Niederauer, District International Foundation Chair and PLG Sherlo Shively, Division Foundation Chair for their work.

WESTCHESTER KIWANIANS HONORED

1998-99 President Steve Corbin received a 1st Diamond Level Hixson, and 1976-77 Lt. Governor and 1999-2000 President Sherlo Shively was presented the club's 3rd Tablet of Honor from his family. At the Governor Terri's Official Visit, Ila Shively won the IDD drawing, and she gave it to Sherlo for his 1st Diamond Level Hixson.

IN MEMORIAM

In December 1999 at the Rosewood Retirement Center, 1969 Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor Glenn Stockbridge's wife Ruth passed away, and Div. 33 lost a sweet former District First Lady. Also, Golden K member Everett Waddingham died on Christmas Day. May they both rest in peace.

GOLDEN K ROSEWOOD-KERN CITY CLUB ADDS SIXTH HIXSON

During December 1999, GK member Valeria Angelbeck (96) purchased her HIXSON joining club members: PP Harold Matlock, PP Sunny Scofield, Sec. Stan Peterson, PLG Hal Harney and Marilyn Jones (IDD Chair 3 years).
