Jon Johnston at Veteran's Memorial Hall, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (2), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (5), Golden K (1), Kern (4), Oildale (2), Rosedale (1), Shafter (12/3), South Bakersfield (4), Southwest Bakersfield (3), Taft (3/1), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (4), and KIWIN'S LTG (1). 2002-03 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield (Golden K) awarded the Distinguished Club pins to Presidents and Secretaries plus banner patches for the following six clubs: Bakersfield, East Bakersfield, Kern, South Bakersfield, Southwest Bakersfield, and Westchester. Congratulation to Sunny Scofield for being named Distinguished 2002-03 Lt. Gov. by Past Governor Mark McDonald. Div. 33 Foundation Ambassador Rueben Perttula (Kern) was awarded a plaque along with Lt. Gov. Mel Khachigian (South) our 17th year of 100% club participation in both KI and Cal-Nev-Ha Foundations. Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Retirement and Installation Dinner (DCM) was hosted by the Tehachapi Pres. Sandy McCain at the Courtyard, Social - 6:00 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (1), Kern (9/2), Oildale (0), Rosedale (4), Shafter (4/1), South Bakersfield (4/2), Southwest Bakersfield (1), Taft (5/1), Tehachapi (16/14) and Westchester (4). Div. 33 members would like to thank both Immed. Past Lt. Gov. Mel Khachigian (South) and First Lady Dorothy for making our division operation run smoothly after PLG Filmore Bender resigned on January 21, 2004. IPLG Mel Khachigian express his appreciation to Div. 33 members for their support, and he presented the Division Committee Chairs and Special Counselors with engraved & logo desk sets as his gift for their work. Gov. Robert McDaniel (Shafter) awarded the Distinguished Club pins to Presidents and Secretaries plus banner patch & $50 Kiwanis Store gift certificates for the following nine clubs: Bakersfield, Delano, Kern, Rosedale, South Bakersfield, Southwest Bakersfield, Taft, Tehachapi and Westchester. Congratulation to Robert McDaniel for being named Distinguished 2001-02 Lt. Gov. by Past Governor Greg Mason. Div. 33 Foundation Ambassador Rueben Perttula (Kern) was awarded a plaque along with Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield for our 16th year of 100% club participation in both KI and Cal-Nev-Ha Foundations. It was noted that PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) is the 8th recipient of the Ernie Korte Lifetime Achievement Award with PLG Mel Khachigian (South) being the 2nd recipient. Div. 33 Bloodmobile Chair Bill Altmiller (Oildale) conducted the drawing for the $350 Beef Raffle with the winner being Sharon Thesman. Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield announced this fundraise profited $5,500 bring our total to date of $40,878 towards our goal of $108,400 for purchasing a Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile to be used by Houchin on small blood draws.

Kern Kiwanis' new author R. Scott Allred of "Dead Gold" has pledged 5% of his royalties to Kiwanis International Foundation. On Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., he will be holding his first book signing at Russo's Books at the Marketplace, 9000 Ming Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93309. He would love to see many Kiwanians there. He is offering happy dollars to clubs that refer sales to his web-site www.deadgold.com.

Bob Brumfield at Bakersfield Petroleum Club (12 floor of Stockdale Towers), Social - 5:45 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. Danielle Blacet of the Western Growers Association (WGA) presented a program of putting a garden on every school campus in California. Gov. (11). Bakersfield Pres. Bob Brumfield and Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender and FL Christine. (Lower Right) 2002-03 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield presented 9 of the 20 Distinguished Kiwanian Awards (DKA) earned by members of the following clubs: Bakersfield (5), East Bak. (1), Golden K (2), Kern (4), Southwest Bak. (3), Taft (1) and Westchester (4). DKAs from Bakersfield are; (L-R) VP Nancy Kerns, Sec. & PP Bob Doozan, PP Wayne Deats Jr., and Co-Pres. Sheila Haydan. 2001-02 Distinguished Lt. Gov. Robert McDaniel presented Cal-Nev-Ha District Distinguished Club Banner patches to: Bakersfield, Delano, Kern, Rosedale, South Bakersfield, Taft, Tehachapi and Westchester.

Div. 33 Teen Government Day was held at the Norris Road Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Rd. At the head table were: (L-R) Chair PP Judge Mike Bush (Bakersfield), Captain Blood Bill Altmiller (Oildale), Host Club President Mike Lingo (Rosedale), Bakersfield City Mayor Harvey Hall, Councilmen Mike Maggard and Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender. (Lower Middle) The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (6), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (0), Kern (10), Oildale (10), Rosedale (4), Shafter (0), South Bakersfield (1), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (0), Tehachapi (0), Westchester (6) and Students & Guests (58).

Div. 33 DCM was co-hosted by Rosedale PP Hugh McGowan (Lower Middle-Right) and Southwest Pres. David Colburn (Lower Middle-Right) at Maitia's Basque Restaurant, 4420 Coffee Rd., Social - 5:45 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker for the evening was Donna Hylton of the Kern Adult Literacy Council. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (2), Golden K (1), Kern (3), Oildale (4), Rosedale (7), Shafter (5), South Bakersfield (6), Southwest Bakersfield (7), Taft (4), Tehachapi (5), Westchester (4) and KIWIN'S LTG & NCBC (2). 2002-03 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield presented 3 of the 23 Distinguished Kiwanian Awards (DKA) earned by members of the following clubs: Bakersfield (5), East Bak. (2), Golden K (2), Kern (4), Shafter (1), Southwest Bak. (3), Taft (1), Tehachapi (1) and Westchester (4). The three new DKAs are: PE Joanne George (East Bakersfield), PP Amy McDaniel (Shafter) and VP Joeann King (Tehachapi).

Div. 33 Blood Drive was hosted by the Oildale Club at the Norris Road Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Rd. Captain Blood Bill Altmiller (Oildale) arranged for media coverage and Houchin to draw blood. State Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy was the guest speaker. Twenty two pints of blood were donated. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (5), Golden K (1), Kern (714, Oildale (15), Rosedale (1), Shafter (0), South Bakersfield (3), Southwest Bakersfield (1), Taft (0), Tehachapi (0), Westchester (7) and Guests (11).

Div. 33 DCM was hosted by East Bakersfield Pres. Craig Wilson at Hodel's, and he turned the meeting over to Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender for our annual Christmas Party. (Lower Middle-Left) The Social was held at 5:45 p.m. with Dinner at 6:30 p.m. "Bubba" Clause (PP Joel Park) from the South Pole made an appearance with Lt. Gov. Bender. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (6), Delano (2), East Bakersfield (17), Golden K (1), Kern (7), Oildale (5), Rosedale (4), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (6), Southwest Bakersfield (2), Taft (0), Tehachapi (2), Westchester (4) and KIWIN'S LTG & NCBC (2). Both Ruby Div. LTG Manuel Maldonado and NCBC Valorie Ortega spoke on the need for KIWIN'S Clubs in the following High Schools: Bakersfield - Ridgeview HS, North HS & Bakersfield Christian HS and Delano - Cesar Chavez HS (F&S). (Lower Middle) Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District is the 32nd district of Key Club International with full rights, but has the history of being founded by 1973-74 CNH Kiwanis Governor Sid Smith as a girls organization. PSDLG John Stephenson is the 2003-04 KIWIN'S District Administrator and Ruby Division Regional Advisor. KIWIN'S Web site Captain Blood Bill Altmiller reported that the Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile called "The Half Pint" was already at work, and it was pictured in the local newspaper today. "The Half Pint" 2002-03 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield stated of the $108,400.00 total cost for the Bloodmobile that $66,578.95 (61.4%) had been raised. To date, Houchin Blood Bank has been given $54,706.77 (50.5%) in 2 payments. Each Div. 33 member needs to make a contribution to the Kiwanis Bloodmobile so they can say "I did my share."

Richard Kerr at Hodel's, Social - 5:45 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. (Lower Left) The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (3), Golden K (2), Kern (7), Oildale (4), Rosedale (5), Shafter (4), South Bakersfield (6), Southwest Bakersfield (4), Taft (4), Tehachapi (3), Westchester (3), EBHS KIWIN'S LTG (1) and South Key Club (7). Our guest speaker was Patrick Frase from Habitat for Humanity.
January 15-21, 2004
On Thursday, January 15th, Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender announced his need to resign from his office and move to Arizona. On Saturday, January 17th, the PLGs met and unanimously agreed that Mel Khachigian (1972-73 LG) should complete Filmore's year thereby keeping the office in the South Bakersfield Club. All club Presidents and immediate Past Presidents were provide with this information and requested to vote by return e-mail. The polls closed a 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21st. At that time, a total of 15 yes votes and zero no votes had been received from 11 clubs. With 13 clubs in Division 33, 9 clubs constitutes a quorum and 14 votes an absolute majority. Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender submitted to District Governor Les Wixson the name of Mel Khachigian as the new Lt. Gov. for the remainder of the Kiwanis year.

Div. 33 DCM was hosted by Taft Pres. Cyndee Stark at the O.T. Cookhouse, Social - 5:45 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. The Taft's welcoming group included Secretary Penny Artz, Pres. Cyndee and IPP Adele Ward. (Middle Right) Conducting his 1st DCM as 2003-04 Div. 33 Lt. Gov, was Mel Khachigian (South) with Mama Kiwanis (PP Kathy Orrin) and Div. Secretary Ken Svendsen. Each club furnished a person to play in the "meat ball-spoon passing" contest with Ron Church (South) and Debbie Shepherd (Oildale) making the winning pass. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (1), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (3), Golden K (0), Kern (6), Oildale (4), Rosedale (0), Shafter (4), South Bakersfield (4), Southwest Bakersfield (5), Taft (22), Tehachapi (5), Westchester (5) and KIWIN'S LTG Manuel Maldonado & NCBC Valorie Ortega(2).

Div. 33 had a wonderful night of Blue Grass Music Concert featuring Long Lonesome Road with Laurie Lewis & Pacific Crest bands. Western Kitchen's served 260 dinners at the NOR Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Road. The cost was $25 per person with the net profit going to payoff the Kiwanis Bloodmobile "The Half Pint." Thanks to East Bakersfield Kiwanis Club for their outstanding efforts: Pres. Craig Wilson for arranging the bands plus overseeing the event, Sec. Chuck Cunningham for keeping track of the income and expenses, Bettie Wells for the ticket sales and Joanne George for the table decorations. Thanks to all the sponsors listed in the program that made this event a success. Program.

Governor-Elect at 5:30 p.m., Sun Room at Hodel's, Olive Dr. All club Presidents and immediate Past Presidents or their board approved alternates will vote. All past Lt. Governors will have the privilege of the floor without the right to vote.

Total "K" Day Chair Nancy Kerns (Bakersfield) is working with Mayor Harvey Hall to organize a cooperative activity for the K-Family (Kiwanis & Sponsored Youth Clubs) and the City of Bakersfield to clean up and beautify the on-off ramps on Highway 99.

Key Club International Conventions in St. Louis, MO. 2003-04 KIWIN'S Governor Vanessa Porter received her Distinguished KCI Governors award in it's 3rd year as the Key Club's 32nd district (1 of 12) (Right). Also, the KIWIN'S district had 6 of 122 to get the Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lt. Governor's award. In addition, we had our candidate John Torres win 1 of 14 KCI Trustee positions. 2003-04 KIWIN'S District Administrator John Stephenson was very proud of his Governor, Board and Regional Advisors for their hard work.

2004-05 KIWIN'S Key Club District held their Summer Board meetings at Cal Poly SLO. KIWIN'S Governor Kathy Choi (Torrance HS) conducted a very productive and bonding meetings. (3rd front row) District Special Assistant John Stephenson provided the transportation for Ruby Div. LTG Melissa Pina (EBHS).
