Div. 33 attended the Kiwanis International Convention, Indianapolis, Indiana with eight clubs represented by 11 delegates and 2 guests. For the first time, Key Club & Circle K International Conventions were held jointly in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District (32nd) were in attendance with Gov. Vanessa Porter (Poway HS, San Diego) and District Administrator John Stephenson (Kern). (Lower Middle-Left) The photo was taken during the Service Fair held on Saturday, July 5th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Robert F Lucas Outstanding Lt. Governor Award was presented to three 2002-03 KIWIN'S LTGs: Coral Div. - Ruthie Kai, Emerald Div. - Vanessa Porter and Goldstone Div. Sherie Lou Santos.

Elect Gary Palmear at Veterans Hall, on Norris Road Veterans Hall, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (2), Kern (8), Oildale (10), Rosedale (6), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (3), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (3), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (9), Key Club PLTG (1) and KIWIN'S LTG & NCBC (2). Lt. Gov. Sunny presented a Dunlap to Joe Bradford (Westchester) (Right) and DKA to Pres. George Thomson (Golden K). Captain Blood Bill Altmiller passed out Bloodmobile pins to donors of $100+ and to PLTG Emily Gallegos for Garces High Key Club's donation of $500 (Lower Left). Gov. Elect candidates Larry McLeland & Robert Ward campaigned for votes. A two Dunlap drawing was held by PLG Phil Field with winners of Nancy Kerns (Bakersfield) & Cindy Horst (Southwest Bakersfield). Shafter's Pres. Amy McDaniel presented Water Watcher Awards to PLG Phil and Leah Field plus John Stephenson Sr. and Jr. for their work on the project.

Amy McDaniel at Memorial Veteran's Hall, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (3), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (5), Golden K (2), Kern (8), Oildale (3), Rosedale (9), Shafter (13), South Bakersfield (4), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (4), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (8), and KIWIN'S LTG (1). 2001-02 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Robert McDaniel (Shafter) awarded the Distinguished Club pins to Presidents and Secretaries plus banner patch & $50 Kiwanis Store gift certificates for the following nine clubs: Bakersfield, Delano, Kern, Rosedale, South Bakersfield, Southwest Bakersfield, Taft, Tehachapi and Westchester. Congratulation to Robert McDaniel for being named Distinguished 2001-02 Lt. Gov. by Past Governor Greg Mason. Div. 33 Foundation Ambassador Rueben Perttula (Kern) was awarded a plaque along with Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield for our 16th year of 100% club participation in both KI and Cal-Nev-Ha Foundations. (Middle) It was noted that PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) is the 8th recipient of the Ernie Korte Lifetime Achievement Award with PLG Mel Khachigian (South) being the 2nd recipient. (Left) Div. 33 Bloodmobile Chair Bill Altmiller (Oildale) conducted the drawing for the $350 Beef Raffle with the winner being Sharon Thesman. Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield announced this fundraise profited $5,500 bring our total to date of $40,878 towards our goal of $108,400 for purchasing a Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile to be used by Houchin on small blood draws.

Kern Kiwanis' new author R. Scott Allred of "Dead Gold" has pledged 5% of his royalties to Kiwanis International Foundation. On Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., he will be holding his first book signing at Russo's Books at the Marketplace, 9000 Ming Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93309. He would love to see many Kiwanians there. He is offering happy dollars to clubs that refer sales to his web-site www.deadgold.com.

2002-03 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield held the Div. 33 Club Leadership Education with Certified Kiwanis Instructor PLG Richard Olmstead (Div. 38) at First Presbyterian Church, 17th and H Street, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eleven of 13 Clubs with 29 Kiwanis were in attendance. Those participating included: 1 Lt. Gov.-designate, 10 President-designate, 10 Secretaries-designate, 3 Treasurer-designate, 1 Division Chair, 1 2001-02 Lt. Gov. and 3 Past Lt. Govs. Thanks to the church group for serving wonderful continental breakfast and lunch.

Div. 33 DCM hosted by Tehachapi Club at The Apple Shed, 333 E. Tehachapi Blvd., Social - 6:30 p.m. & Meeting - 7:00 p.m. Governor Greg Mason presented Cal-Nev-Ha District Foundation's grant for $922 to Ray Hino of the Tehachapi Valley Health Care District Hospital which is part of First Lady Tammie's Pediatric Trauma Program. Tehachapi President Dick Patteson presented Ray with a matching sum. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (0), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (1/2), Kern (4), Oildale (2), Rosedale (10), Shafter (4), South Bakersfield (0), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (7), Tehachapi (15/5) and Westchester (5).

Tehachapi Kiwanis Club's 7th Charity Golf Tournament at Horse Thief Country Club at Stallion Springs. Pres-Elect Mike Kelley presented the awards and drawing prizes. For the Kiwanis Team Plaque, both Shafter Club and Kern Club were tied, and in a coin toss PSDLG John Stephenson called heads and his team was the winner (John Boydstun Sr., son Jay and Tom Poor).

2002-03 Div. 33 Installation and Retiring Party was hosted by Golden K Club at Hodel's Olive Drive, Bakersfield, CA with Social - 6:30 p.m. and Dinner - 7:00 p.m. Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor Mark McDonald installed 2002-03 Div. 33 Lt. Gov.-Elect Filmore Bender (South) who was pinned by wife Virginia. Gov. Mark installed 2002-03 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield (Golden K). Immediate Past Lt. Gov. Robert McDaniel past to Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield the Div. 33 Gavel. Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield presents IPLG Robert McDaniel with his plaque and thanks him for a successful year with a + 17 member growth.

Div. 33 DCM was jointly hosted by Oildale Club and Delano Club at Red Lion Inn, 2400 Camino Del Rio Ct., Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. Governor Counselor Don Miller presented to Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield a Dunlap with the assistance of PSDLG John Stephenson. East Bakersfield Club Pres. Norman Lohr and Delano Club Pres. Cindy Kinsey reporting on the activities of their respective clubs. This was Div. 33 Sponsored Youth night, and we were honored to have updates from Key Club Div. 33 LTG Emily Gallegos (Garces HS) and KIWIN'S Ruby Div. LTG Renae Elliott (East Bakersfield HS). In addition, 2002-03 Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District Administrator John Stephenson explained the joy of working with these outstanding service minded high school students. Without Kiwanis Clubs sponsorship and advisors, we would not have sponsored youth clubs from Elementary Schools to Colleges (288,250 members). The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (8*), East Bakersfield (13*), Golden K (4), Kern (5*), Oildale (5), Rosedale (9), Shafter (4*), South Bakersfield (4*), Southwest Bakersfield (5), Taft (5), Tehachapi (5*), Westchester (4*) plus Builders Club (1), KIWIN'S (6) and Key Club (27). * Sponsored Youth members in attendance

2002-03 Div. 33 Blood Drive Chair Bill Altmiller welcomed the new Houchin six-bed blood unit to NOR Veterans Hall. Oildale Pres. Joel Park introduced Special Guest speaker Calif. Senator Roy Ashburn, and Roy was presented a plaque for his support of our annual blood drive. Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield requested Kiwanis members and clubs donations to a three-bed unit at a cost of $90,000. Bill Altmiller will chair this project.

Div. 33 presented David Parmley & Continental Divide with Pacific Crest at the Silver Oaks Banquet Facility on Wednesday - 6:30 p.m. The Blue Grass Dinner Concert benefited the Houchin 3-bed Bloodmobile Fund. It was estimated that 280 attended a wonderful evening, and $4,800 was raised for the Fund.

Div. 33 DCM hosted by Westchester Club Pres. Joe Bradford at Red Lion Inn, 2400 Camino Del Rio Ct., Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield presented Kiwanis medallions to Key Club LTG Emily Gallegos and KIWIN'S LTG Renae Elliott. In addition, Kiwanis medallion was presented to Shafter Pres. Amy McDaniel for the new Builders Club and East Bakersfield VP Craig Wilson for organizing the Blue Grass Dinner & Concert. Div. 33 Governor's Official Visit hosted by Golden K Club Pres. George Thomson at the Bakersfield Petroleum Club on the 12th floor of the Stockdale Tower, 5060 California Ave.(corner of Mohawk), Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. Governor Mark McDonald attended Past District Officers social at El Torito's from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and a Club Presidents meeting at the Petroleum Club from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Gov. Mark and Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield took time for a photo at the head table. Gov. Mark with the help of Div. 33 Foundation Chair Rueben Perttula presented 15 Club DSA's with Bakersfield and South Clubs awarding two each. A total of 150 were in attendance.

Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S 27th Convention was held at Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, CA with 458 in attendance. KIWIN'S District Administrator John Stephenson escorted Ruby Div. 2003-04 LTG Manuel Maldonado (Left) and 2002-03 LTG Renae Elliott (Right) both from EBHS to the convention.

Adele Ward at OT's Cookhouse, 205 N. 10th St., Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (3), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (2), Kern (4/1), Oildale (3), Rosedale (5), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (1), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (18/3), Tehachapi (3), Westchester (4/3), and KIWIN'S LTG (1). Westchester PP Don Fowler introduced Margaret Dennis who donated $1,000 to the Bloodmobile Project in her husband Al's memory. (Lower Right) Taft Pres. Adele Ward assisted Lt. Gov.
