HOUCHIN BLOOD SERVICES - Facts & Figures on the "KIWANIS" 3-bed Mobile Bus

It's been one year! Hard to believe! Since the 3-bed bus has become our friend; I'd like to take this opportunity, to tell you where she's been!

The 3-bed arrive December 2003, smelling just like a new car; I took three days to get it licensed, stocked and ready to go far.

And where did it go? To 100's sites! Some sites were visited 3-4 times! At companies, schools, and Kiwanis luncheons. The bus was a sight and almost always a welcome.

At 19 high schools it assisted with ease and met every challenge, And help collect 3,703 pints of blood or 463 gallons! The students in Kern county schools rolled up their sleeves, Eagerly ready to give ... we all were so pleased!

Traveling 13,600 miles can take its toll on a vehicle; At times getting back to the blood bank was a miracle! Using 507 gallons of gas in a year This little bus has been held so dear.

The final statistics are staggering to see, But here is what they all mean to you and to me; " 3,703 Pints collected " 463 Gallons " 4,503 LIVES TOUCHED ... PRICELESS

KIWANIS BLOODMOBILE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS OPERATIONS REPORT

In a letter dated August 3, 2004, Greg Gallon, CEO Houchin Blood Service, reported: "The bus was put into operation on December 3, 2003. From its date of inception through July 31, 2004, we have traveled over 5,900 miles to 33 different sites, some two or three times, and collected 518 units of blood. We have used the three-bed bus, working together with our six-bed bus, at 11 different sites, including Ridgecrest, and collecting a total of 773 units. That brings the contribution of the three-bed bus to total collections of 1,291 units of blood that perhaps we would not have received had we not had that vehicle. As a result of your efforts and the contributions of that bus, we have been able to help save the lives of countless number of people."
